It turns out you can't hire your way to grow profitably listing more items.


That reseller isn't alone. Most resale businesses hit the listing bottleneck and add headcount. Then they hit it again at 2x volume. The problem compounds because listing costs scale linearly while margins don't.


We've spent the last 2 years diving into this with resellers, marketplaces, and returns processors.

The uncomfortable bit: that "5 or even 10 minutes per item" everyone accepts isn't destiny. It's a choice to keep doing work and following a workflow that shouldn't exist.


Break down where those 5-10 minutes actually go. About 30-60 seconds is judgment work - assessing condition, choosing photo angles. The other minutes? Data entry. Transcribing care labels at 60-70% accuracy. Measuring with tape measures and typing numbers into forms. Selecting categories from dropdown menus. Writing descriptions from scratch. Cross-referencing sold comps for pricing. Then doing the next item. It's tedious.


But here's the real problem: the real killer isn't the 5 minutes. It's that you're processing one item from start to finish, then starting the next one from scratch. Photograph item. Stop. Transcribe label. Stop. Measure. Stop. Write description. Stop. Upload. Stop. Next item, repeat. Your brain is context-switching 50+ times per hour. Its massively inefficient.


None of this creates value. You're just moving information from one place to another, slowly and often badly.


The costs are brutal. At €25/hour fully loaded, 5 minutes costs €2.08 per listing. Process 10,000 items monthly and you're burning €20,833 on listing labour before you've authenticated, stored, or shipped anything. Your margin per item sold is what, €8-12? You've already consumed 17-26% of it on data entry.


Scale to 20,000 items and you need to double the team. The costs stay broken forever.


Now watch what happens when you flip to a batch workflow. Photograph all 50 items first. Upload the batch.
