As we start the New Year, it's time to reflect: What will your brand be known for in the evolving landscape of fashion technology?
This question isn't just about product innovation or brand identity—it's about how your decisions this year will define your business. The fashion industry is at a crossroads. From AI-driven personalisation to virtual fitting rooms, emerging tech is reshaping how we design, sell, and experience fashion. But the key question remains: How do we prioritise which technologies to implement in a way that actually moves the needle?
As decision-makers, you need to think strategically about how to make tech investments that yield the highest ROI, improve your customers' experience, and align with your brand's mission. Technology is no longer optional; it's the foundation for growth, efficiency, and differentiation.
With an overwhelming number of options——it's easy to feel paralysed by choice. So how do you choose? Here are 4 different frameworks and questions to help you prioritise.
1. Customer Centric Prioritisation
Ask yourself: "Which tech will have the biggest impact on my customers' journey?" Prioritise tech that enhances customer experience—whether it’s through virtual fitting rooms, or eCommerce personalisation. Aligning tech with customer expectations and answering this question will drive loyalty and conversions.
2. Impact vs. Effort Matrix
Map out potential tech solutions using the impact vs. effort matrix by asking yourself what effort is involved and the likely impact. Start by evaluating which technologies will bring the most impact with the least effort (quick wins). For example, implementing AI-based size recommendations can increase conversion rates with minimal technical overhead. Then, tackle high-impact, high-effort projects (such as developing an AI-driven data platform) when you have the bandwidth.
3. Scalability & ROI Analysis
Consider the scalability of each technology solution and ask yourself: will it grow with your business? Will the upfront investment lead to long-term returns?
4. Test & Learn
Embrace a test-and-learn approach. Instead of committing to one-time investments, experiment with pilots aligned to your business goals, and gather data to inform your decisions and scale from there. This minimises risk and allows you to pivot when needed, evolving your plans.
These frameworks do not offer one complete answer but I hope that they provoke your thinking to align on your objectives and move forward.
This year, let's focus on making intentional choices: adopt technology that aligns with your business goals and delivers lasting impact.
